Estimated landed cost

    Cost excluding recoverable import GST/VAT:

An estimate for planning only. Duty rates depend on the exact HS code, origin and current notifications, and some goods carry extra duties such as anti-dumping duty. Confirm with your customs broker before ordering.

    How the calculation works

CIF value = goods value + freight + insurance. Customs duty is charged on this value.

    India

    • Basic customs duty (BCD) = CIF × BCD rate
    • Social welfare surcharge = 10% of BCD
    • IGST = (CIF + BCD + SWS) × IGST rate

    Nepal

    • Customs duty = CIF × duty rate
    • Excise duty, where it applies, on CIF + duty
    • VAT (13%) on CIF + duty + excise

Add clearance, port and inland transport to reach the landed cost, then divide by units for the cost per piece. See the landed cost guide for a worked example.

    Questions

    What is landed cost?

The total cost of getting a product to your door: product price, freight, insurance, customs duty, import taxes and local charges.

Is the social welfare surcharge always 10%?

For most goods it is 10% of the basic customs duty, but some goods are exempt or charged differently. Check the tariff for your HS code.

Can I claim back IGST or VAT?

Registered businesses can often claim import GST or VAT as input tax credit, which is why the calculator also shows cost excluding recoverable tax.
